For years it seems I have been sitting on the idea that at some stage I would like to get seriously involved in design and construction of musical instruments.
You see, over the years, playing and repairing my own and other peoples instruments, I began to think... too many guitars, basses and I dare say other instruments seem to sacrifice how the instrument feels to play by being overly traditional/funky/technical or even artistic in design.
And I am a fan of keeping it simple.
I like the idea of basic instruments.
The more I thought about it, the more reasonable it seemed...
...create instruments that please the eye, sooth the ear and yet still feel... playable.
...use good stable tonewoods, quality hardware and simple but effective design.
...and all the while remembering, try and keep the end cost reasonable.
In this section, when it is more complete, you will find more information on the instruments I have built using these ideas and how I went about doing so.
