Mr Charles John Addison Doughty QC Conservative MP for Surrey East from 1951-1970 and Recorder of Brighton from 1955-1971 has died at his home in the Temple aged 70. He was the son of Sir Charles Doughty QC whom he succeeded at Brighton's Recorder. Educated at Eton and Magdalen College, Oxford, he was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1926 and took silk in 1954. He unsuccessfully contested Birmingham Aston in 1950, but won Surrey East with a majority of 23,910 over his Labour opponent. Mr Doughty, who served with the Coldstream Guards in the 1939-45 war, was the husband of Dame Adelaide Doughty, chairman of the National Union of the Conservative and Unionist Party in 1967. They were married in 1931 and had a son and daughter.
