There are quite a number of string orchestras that perform solely instrumental music in Sydney, one of the leading string bands in Sydney is the Palm Court Orchestra
There appears to be very few alternatives to a typical string band (other than the Viva bands) if the venue requires classy and unobtrusive background music. Weddings are usually not an event to showcases singers or rock groups, the wedding group primarily want to socialize and a refined instrumental ambiance is generally most suitable for this purpose
The year 2011 in review
The year 2011 has proven to be our most productive year since the inception of the Viva bands in 1996. We performed on over 200 occasions including performances at many great venues such as the Opera House, Notes Live, The Art Gallery of NSW and the Factory Theatre plus some recording work for TV commercials and two radio shows, with lots of weddings as well, a great diversity of work
The Viva ambiance
Viva the duo is a very economical band that have developed their music to provide the same instrumental function as a string orchestra adding an International flavour with guitar, flute, accordion and bass, they are a unique replacement for a string orchestra and they play exotic background music
The Viva advantage
One of the distinct advantages of the Viva combination is, that they can incite audiences with the urge to dance to their Latin, tango and swing music (if required or appropriate for the occasion). Viva the duo is currently enjoying many wedding venues, special corporate functions and International venues and events that used to be the exclusive realm of string orchestras

Instrumental music for background music at weddings and functions
Wedding receptions and functions generally have a delightful ambiance when they employ a live band that play instrumental music
String orchestras, harpists, solo violinists, accordion players etc. are often engaged to perform at wedding receptions and functions, primarily because they play music that does not intrude on wedding party and guests interaction or conversation
Rock bands with vocalists are generally unable to provide instrumental only background music, however they are most successful for an occasion where the audience is mostly young people, the venue can becomes a platform to launch their "hep" music and get the audience's undivided attention
The Viva bands for weddings and special functions
The Viva duo, in particular, has emerged on the wedding scene as a special and interesting alternative to a string band, violinists or harpists, they perform the same function with easy listening and quieter styles of instrumental music with Latin American, popular French and European tunes plus Jazz Standards creating an engaging and romantic ambiance. Viva the duo performed their special music for Lenka Kripac, a popular recording artist for Sony International. The occasion is her marriage to James Gulliver Hancock. Viva the duo also accompanied Missy Higgins who entertained at the event. Lenka's dad, Jiri, also played with Viva the band

Picasso exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW. Viva trio will be providing music for a series of 3 weeks in February 2012 at the exhibition of Picasso masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris. They will be following up these performances with a concert at Canterbury Leagues club with the Viva International Show
